We made it to the end of the first week of our "Do GOOD, Be GOOD" project and not only did Harrison take it really seriously, he really tried to ensure he made at least one of his goals. We, Mommy & Daddy, were also taking this seriously and didn't give out the "good dots" easily. He had to really earn them. He came really close on all 4 "good" behaviors (manners, listening, pick-up, put-up, good at school), but he officially earned his first reward for being GOOD AT SCHOOL!
Harrison has a great Kindergarten teacher who keeps us informed of his day and I was given a great progress report from her, in addition to not getting and "bad" reports, which is always a GOOD sign! :-)
So, after picking him from school on Friday he was given the good news that he MET HIS GOAL! He would really, truly be receiving his first reward on his Do Good, Be Good board! He was thrilled! We told him that the first reward would be his pick and of course, he already had a plan for his reward. He wanted lunch, ice cream, and to go to the toy store in his new favorite shopping area, which to him resembles New York City. He's a bit infatuated with New York due to the Thanksgiving Dat parade, the backdrop in the games he plays, and he just generally is fascinated with large buildings. We have a really cool, modern/hip shopping area near our house that has a blend of mixed retail, restaurants, condos, and businesses and to him, it's New York.
We woke up yesterday morning (Saturday) with our day mapped out. We'd have breakfast at home then we'd start out on our reward day: Daddy & Son haircuts (OK, this was just thrown in because it was needed. He didn't argue), toy store, lunch, and then ice cream. And, we let him and his sister burn off some energy in the play space. It was a GOOD DAY.
No hissy fits. No whining. No fighting. Just good behavior. Maybe we're onto something? Am I actually getting the hang of parenting? I mean, it's only been 6+ years! ;-)
Stay tuned!
p.s. If you're in the Raleigh area, I highly recommend you check out the Learning Express store. I've been wanting to check out their store for awhile now, but just hadn't made it there. This was the store we took Harrison to and it didn't disappoint! Great service, fantastic selection of great toys to include learning toys, and everything can be personalized! Check them out!
